Why convert WAV to MP3?
WAV files are large, so people turn recordings, mixes and voice tracks into MP3 to email them, share them or fit more on a phone. A 192 kbps MP3 takes roughly one seventh of the space of a CD-quality WAV, but the compression removes detail that cannot be recovered.
