Why convert JPG to TXT?
Retyping a photographed page, receipt, notice or business card takes time, and text inside a JPG cannot be selected, searched or pasted. ToolGPT reads printed English text from the photo, and a sharp, upright, well-lit shot gives far better results than a blurry or angled one.
How ToolGPT reads the text
Recognition runs in your browser with Tesseract, an open-source OCR engine, so the JPG is not sent to an OCR service. So that the assistant can answer questions about the result, the first 2,000 characters of the recognized text are shared with the AI in your chat.
It reads printed English text. Handwriting, other languages and very small or blurry text come out poorly or not at all. It reads at most 20 pages or photos at a time, so for a longer PDF ToolGPT asks which pages you need.
About JPG
JPG, also written JPEG, is the standard format for photographs, used by cameras, phones and almost every website. It compresses images with loss, so photos stay small while still looking natural. It has no transparency, and strong compression or repeated saving adds blocky artifacts, especially around text and sharp edges.
About TXT
TXT is a plain text file: just characters, with no fonts, images or formatting. Every computer, phone and text editor can open it, and its contents paste cleanly into documents, emails and other programs. It cannot keep layout such as columns, tables or bold text.
