Convert WAV audio to FLAC in a chat

Attach your WAV file and tell ToolGPT you need FLAC. It converts the audio in your browser, matches your file's own sample rate and quality as closely as FLAC allows unless you ask for others, and hands you the FLAC to download.

How it works

  1. 1

    Attach the WAV

Open ToolGPT and press the + button beside the message box, or drop the audio file into the chat. No account is needed to start.

  2. 2

    Ask for FLAC

Type “Convert this to FLAC”. Name a bitrate or sample rate if you need a specific one.

  3. 3

    Download the FLAC

The converted file appears as a card in the chat with a download button. Your WAV is not changed.

Why convert WAV to FLAC?

FLAC is the usual choice for archiving recordings and music libraries, because it is lossless and can carry tags such as artist and album. A standard 16-bit WAV decodes back from the FLAC exactly as it was, while the file is usually much smaller.

How ToolGPT converts WAV to FLAC

The conversion runs in your browser with a WebAssembly build of FFmpeg, so your audio is not uploaded to a server. MP3 files are written by FFmpeg too, because browsers have no MP3 encoder of their own.

A conversion changes the format and nothing about the sound: the length and volume stay as they are. To trim, speed up or change the volume, ask for that as its own step.

About WAV

WAV is the standard uncompressed audio format on Windows, created by Microsoft and IBM. It stores sound as plain PCM samples, so it is exact and opens in practically every audio editor. The cost is size: one minute of CD-quality stereo takes about 10 MB.

About FLAC

FLAC is an open lossless audio format: it makes files smaller without throwing any sound away, and it decodes back to exactly the original samples. Music collectors and archives use it for high-quality libraries. It is still larger than MP3 or AAC, and some car stereos, older players and music apps do not support it.

Frequently asked questions

Is my audio uploaded?

No. ToolGPT converts the file in your browser. Only your chat messages go to the AI assistant.

Does converting improve the sound?

No. At best, a conversion keeps the quality your WAV already has, and it cannot bring back detail that was lost before. Converting a compressed file to a lossless format makes it bigger without making it sound better.

Can I convert a whole album at once?

Yes. Attach all the files and ask for FLAC. ToolGPT shows one plan for the batch, and each file's bitrate and sample rate are matched to that file unless you name them.
