ToolGPT

Turn your WEBM video into an animated GIF

Attach your WEBM, say which moment you want, and ToolGPT turns it into a looping GIF in your browser. It first offers up to three sizes, so you can trade sharpness against file size before anything is made.

How it works

  1. 1

    Attach the WEBM

Open ToolGPT and press the + button beside the message box, or drop the video into the chat. No account is needed to start.

  2. 2

Choose the part and the size

Say which seconds to use, such as “from 0:12 to 0:18”. ToolGPT shows Small, Medium and Large options; tap the one you want.

  3. 3

    Download the GIF

The GIF appears in the chat, ready to download and share. The video is not changed.

Why convert WEBM to GIF?

Browser screen recorders often save WEBM, but documentation pages, wikis and many forums accept a GIF more easily than a video file. Name the start and end in the same message, such as 0:04 to 0:09, and ToolGPT makes the GIF from exactly that span.

How ToolGPT makes the GIF

A GIF is a short, silent, looping picture, so ToolGPT keeps up to 30 seconds of the video and no sound. Without a time range, it uses the first 10 seconds.

The three sizes are 320, 480 and 720 pixels wide, at 8, 10 and 12 frames per second, and none is wider than your video. Larger GIFs look smoother but weigh much more, which matters in chat apps and emails. The GIF is made in your browser, so the video is not uploaded.

About WEBM

WEBM is an open video format made for the web, with Google as its main backer. It carries VP8, VP9 or AV1 video with Opus or Vorbis sound and plays in Chrome, Firefox and Edge. Its weak spot is support outside browsers: many editing apps, TVs and older Apple devices do not open it.

About GIF

GIF is an image format from the early web that can hold short animations, which is why it is used for reactions, memes and quick demos. It plays and loops by itself in browsers and chat apps. Its limits are tight: only 256 colors per frame, no sound, and large files for anything longer than a few seconds.

Frequently asked questions

Does the GIF keep the sound?

No. GIF is a picture format and cannot hold sound. If you need sound, keep the clip as a video; ToolGPT can trim it to the same moment.

How long can the GIF be?

Up to 30 seconds. Shorter is usually better: a five-second GIF is far smaller and loads faster than a thirty-second one.

Is my video uploaded?

No. The GIF is made in your browser from the WEBM on your device.
