Convert WEBM to MP3 and keep just the sound

Need the soundtrack of a video on its own? Attach the WEBM, ask ToolGPT for the audio as MP3, and download a file that plays anywhere audio does. The picture is left out, and the work happens in your browser.

How it works

  1. 1

    Attach the WEBM

Open ToolGPT and press the + button beside the message box, or drop the video into the chat. No account is needed to start.

  2. 2

Ask for the audio as MP3

Type “Save the audio as MP3”. You can name a sample rate too, and a bitrate for compressed formats; anything you leave out follows the video's own audio.

  3. 3

    Download the MP3

The audio file appears as a card in the chat with a download button. The video is not changed.

Why convert WEBM to MP3?

WEBM recordings of meetings, webinars and browser captures carry Opus or Vorbis sound, which many music players and car stereos cannot play. Turning one lossy format into another adds a little loss, so ask for 192 kbps or higher if the recording has music.

How ToolGPT pulls the audio out

The sound is extracted and converted in your browser with a WebAssembly build of FFmpeg, so the video is not uploaded to a server. Only the audio is written to the new file.

A conversion changes the format and nothing about the sound itself: the length and loudness stay as they were. If you only need part of it, ask ToolGPT to trim the audio file afterwards.

About WEBM

WEBM is an open video format made for the web, with Google as its main backer. It carries VP8, VP9 or AV1 video with Opus or Vorbis sound and plays in Chrome, Firefox and Edge. Its weak spot is support outside browsers: many editing apps, TVs and older Apple devices do not open it.

About MP3

MP3 is the best-known compressed audio format, playable on almost every phone, computer, car stereo and music app. It keeps files small by discarding sounds the ear is unlikely to notice. That saving is permanent: an MP3 cannot get its lost detail back, and at low bitrates the loss can be heard.

Frequently asked questions

Is the video uploaded to get its audio?

No. ToolGPT extracts the sound in your browser. Your messages go to the AI assistant, but the WEBM file stays on your device.

Can I choose the audio quality?

Yes. Ask for a sample rate, and for compressed formats a bitrate such as 192 kbps. Settings you leave out match the video's own audio.

Can I keep only part of the sound?

Yes. After the conversion, ask ToolGPT to trim the audio file, for example “keep only 0:30 to 1:45”, and drag the range on the trim card.
