ToolGPT

Add music to a video, or swap its soundtrack

Attach a video and a song, and tell ToolGPT whether the music should replace the original sound or sit underneath it. The new soundtrack is laid down in your browser, and the picture is copied across untouched.

What it can do

  • Replace or mix

Swap the original sound for the new track, or keep it and lay the music underneath.

  • Three music levels

In a mix, the music can sit under the original sound, balance with it, or play loud.

  • No distortion

A mix is scaled so the combined sound never clips, and ToolGPT tells you how much it was turned down.

  • Fitted to the video

A longer track ends with the video on a half-second fade; a shorter one plays once or loops.

  • Sound from anywhere in the chat

Use an audio file, or the sound of another video you attached.

  • Picture untouched

The picture is copied, not re-encoded, so it keeps its quality. The result keeps your video's format; another format works only if it can hold the same picture.

How it works

  1. 1

Attach the video and the music

Add both files with the + button. The music can be an audio file or another video.

  2. 2

    Say how to use it

Replace the original sound, or mix the music under it. If several tracks are in the chat, ToolGPT asks which one you mean.

  3. 3

    Download the result

The new video appears in the chat with a download button. Your original video keeps its old sound.

The video sets the length

The result is always as long as your video. When the song is longer, it ends with the video on a short fade, so it does not stop abruptly. When the song is shorter, it plays once and stops, or repeats until the video ends if you ask. ToolGPT tells you which happened.

The music starts with the video. It also works on videos that have no sound of their own, such as many screen recordings, and on a slideshow you have just made from photos.

Mixing without distortion

In a mix, your original sound stays where it is and the music goes under it, level with it, or above it. Both levels are known before anything is written, so the combined sound is scaled to stay below the point where it would distort. If that means turning everything down a little, the result says by how much.

This tool uses music you attach. When more than one track could be meant, the assistant asks rather than guessing, so the wrong song does not end up on your video.

Done on your device

The soundtrack is decoded and mixed in your browser, so neither the video nor the music file is uploaded. The whole track is held in memory while the video is written, so a very long music file can be refused; ToolGPT explains why and how much to trim.

Frequently asked questions

Can I keep my voice and add music underneath?

Yes. Ask for a mix and say whether the music should be quiet, balanced or loud.

Can the music start partway through the video?

Not with this tool. The music always starts at the beginning of the video.

Is anything uploaded?

No. The music is added in your browser.
