Cut audio files and trim MP3s by asking

Shorten a song for a ringtone, drop the long pause at the start of a recording, or remove a mistake from the middle of a voice memo. Tell ToolGPT what to keep or remove, adjust the range on a card, and the new file is made in your browser.

What it can do

  • Trim or cut

Trim keeps the part you choose and drops both ends. Cut removes the part you choose and joins what is left.

  • Drag or type the range

A card shows the whole file with two handles. Drag them, or type exact start and end times.

  • The new length up front

The card shows how long the result will be before you press Trim or Cut.

  • Same format out

An MP3 stays an MP3, a WAV stays a WAV, and an M4A stays an M4A.

  • Cut in your browser

The audio is cut on your device with a WebAssembly build of FFmpeg.

How it works

  1. 1

    Attach the audio

Add an MP3, WAV, M4A or other audio file with the + button. A video works as well.

  2. 2

    Choose the part

Say what to keep or remove. If you give times, the card opens with them already set; otherwise drag the handles.

  3. 3

Press Trim or Cut, then download

Press the button on the card, or ask the assistant to press it for you. The shorter file appears in the chat with a download button.

Trimming and cutting are different jobs

When you say “trim”, “keep” or “extract”, ToolGPT keeps the span you mark and drops everything before and after it. When you say “cut out”, “remove” or “delete a part”, it removes the span and joins the two ends.

The card says which of the two it will do, so you can check before anything runs. If it is not what you meant, tell the assistant and it opens the right card.

Exact times or a quick drag

Type times the way you would say them, such as “from 1:05 to 1:30” or “the first 20 seconds”. If you give only a start or only an end, the range runs to the edge of the file on the other side.

The start and end fields on the card accept typed times too, which helps when a cut has to land on a precise moment. The total length updates as you move either handle.

What stays the same

The result keeps the format of your file, so an MP3 comes back as an MP3. Your original is not changed, and every result is a new file that you can download or cut again.

Cutting a part out of the middle needs the length of the file. If ToolGPT cannot read the length, it says so, and you can still keep a range by giving its exact start and end times.

Frequently asked questions

Will my MP3 be turned into another format?

No. A trimmed MP3 stays an MP3, unless you ask for a different format.

Can I remove a section from the middle?

Yes. Ask to cut it out. The part you mark is removed and the two ends are joined.

Can I play the audio on the card?

For audio files, the card shows the range and the times, not a player. Open the result in the chat to listen, and ask for a new range if it is not right.

Is my audio uploaded to cut it?

No. The cutting runs in your browser.
