Rotate or flip a video the right way up

A phone video that plays sideways, or a selfie clip with the text mirrored? Attach it, say which way to turn or flip it, and ToolGPT writes a corrected copy in your browser.

What it can do

  • Quarter turns

Rotate 90°, 180° or 270° clockwise. “Rotate left” is the same as 270°.

  • Mirror flips

Flip the picture horizontally, vertically, or both.

  • Rotate and flip together

Ask for both in one message and they are applied in a single job.

  • Fixed into the picture

The new orientation is drawn into every frame, not stored as a playback setting, so every player shows it the same way.

  • Your choice of format

The result keeps your video's format. Name MP4, MOV, WEBM or MKV to change it. AVI and FLV files can be rotated too, and become MP4 by default.

How it works

  1. 1

    Attach the video

Press the + button beside the message box, or drop the file into the chat.

  2. 2

    Say how to turn it

Ask for a rotation, such as “90 degrees clockwise”, a flip, or both.

  3. 3

    Download the result

The rotated copy appears as a card with a download button. The original is not changed.

Which way to turn it

Rotations are clockwise. If the picture lies on its side with the top pointing left, rotate it 90°. If the top points right, rotate it 270°, which is the same as “rotate left”. A video that is upside down needs 180°.

A horizontal flip makes a mirror image of the picture. It fixes writing that reads backwards in a front-camera recording. A vertical flip turns the picture upside down as a mirror image, which is different from a 180° rotation.

Why the picture is re-encoded

Some tools only change a rotation setting inside the file. A player or website that ignores the setting still shows the video sideways. ToolGPT draws every frame in its new orientation instead, so the result is upright in every player and in any edit you make later.

The trade is a re-encode, done in your browser. On most clips the difference is hard to see, but HDR video from a recent phone can come out as standard 8-bit video, with colors that look off. A 90° or 270° turn also swaps the width and height, so a 1920×1080 video becomes 1080×1920.

Frequently asked questions

Can I straighten a slightly tilted video?

No. Only quarter turns are available: 90°, 180° and 270°.

Can I rotate only part of a video?

No. The whole video is rotated.

Is my video uploaded?

No. Rotating and flipping run in your browser.
