ToolGPT

Compress a photo to under 500 KB

500 KB leaves room for a sharp photo. It's a common cap for marketplace listings and website uploads, and a sensible size for a page that loads fast. Name the limit and ToolGPT writes the smaller file on your device.

How it works

  1. 1

    Attach the photo

Add it with the + button or drop it into the chat.

  2. 2

Say 500 KB, and the format if it matters

JPEG is the default. Ask for WEBP if the photo is going on your own website.

  3. 3

    Download it

The smaller copy appears with its size, ready to upload. The original isn't touched.

Pick a pixel size, keep the quality

A full-size photo from a modern phone is often too big for 500 KB even at the lowest quality ToolGPT uses. At about 2,000 pixels on the long side, most photos fit at a good quality, and that is still larger than most web pages show a picture.

Name the long edge in the same message, and ToolGPT resizes and compresses in one step. It tries quality 92 first and steps down to 30, keeping the first result under 500 KB, so nothing is squeezed harder than it needs to be. If nothing fits, it says how small it got.

WEBP for websites

If the photo is for a website, ask for WEBP. It is usually smaller than JPEG at the same quality, so the same 500 KB buys a sharper picture. Some upload forms and older programs don't accept WEBP, so keep JPEG for those.

Either way the work runs in your browser, and the new file leaves out the original's camera details and location.

Frequently asked questions

Can I set 500 KB for several photos at once?

A size limit applies to one photo at a time. For a set, choose one of the compression options, which show their sizes before you tap.

Will the photo keep its shape?

Yes. A long-edge size scales both sides together, so nothing is stretched or cropped.

Is the photo uploaded anywhere?

No. It's compressed in your browser.
