Compress a game clip so Discord accepts it

Discord turns away files above your account's upload limit. Tell ToolGPT the clip is for Discord and which limit applies to you. It plans a smaller copy from the clip's real bitrate and length, and makes it in your browser when you press Start.

How it works

  1. 1

    Attach the clip

Drop the recording into the chat or press the + button.

  2. 2

Say it is for Discord, and your limit

Mention whether you have Nitro, or give the limit as a number. ToolGPT shows a plan with the estimated size, resolution, format and frame rate.

  3. 3

    Start and post

Press Start compression, download the smaller clip, and drag it into your Discord channel.

Discord's limits as of September 2026

Without Nitro, Discord takes uploads of up to 20 MB, a limit that stood at 10 MB until 13 August 2026. With Nitro Basic the limit is 50 MB, and with Nitro it is 500 MB.

Discord can change these limits, so check them if your clip is close. ToolGPT does not guess which plan you have. Tell it your limit and aim a little below it: the plan shows the estimated size as a range, and the final file can land near the top of that range.

Game clips: length, resolution and frame rate

Game recordings are often 1440p or 4K at 60 frames per second, with a very high bitrate. To fit 20 MB, what matters most is how many bits each second can have: a 20-second highlight has far more room than a two-minute round.

The plan lets you trade sharpness, resolution and smoothness against each other. Going from 1440p to 1080p, or from 60 to 30 fps, means fewer pixels to encode each second, so the same bitrate looks sharper. You can also trim the clip down to the key moment first, then compress just that part.

When the clip is ready, the result card shows the original and new sizes. A Compare button lets you play the original and the compressed version to check the quality before you post.

Frequently asked questions

Which format should a Discord clip be?

MP4 with H.264 video plays on almost every device, so it is a safe choice for sharing. A recording in another format can be compressed to MP4 in the same step.

I have Nitro. Do I still need to compress?

Only if the clip is larger than your plan's limit. Tell ToolGPT the limit, so the plan aims for that size and not for the smallest possible file.

Is my clip uploaded to compress it?

No. It is compressed in your browser. Posting it to Discord is a step you do yourself.
